May 18, 1999: Mini-cams

Those who have received the new mini-cams report they are delighted with them and have already put them to good use.  More interesting shots and footage will soon be on the way.

If you haven't ordered your cams, please don't delay.  They are going fast.

May 7, 1999: New web site and those dinner tapes

Sorry for the delay in getting the videos out to you.  As you know by now, we changed web sites yet again, and the hassle of setting up a new web presence has taken a bit of time.

But that's not the biggest reason for the delay.

The problem is this:  The frolicking right-wingers simply gave us way too much material to fit on a standard video cassette, even in six-hour mode!

You wouldn't believe what went on!

First off, the Free Congress Foundation folks kept up their fine tradition of inefficiently rude and unprofessional behavior.  You'll remember from our email reports on just how hard we found it to get a simple freaking reservation; we weren't the only ones who had trouble!

Even the Freepers were going crazy dealing with the near-psychotic FCF contingent.  I kid you not:  The FCFers were literally treating their Freeper comrades as if they were lepers, going out of their to do things like kick them, bump into them and "accidentally" spill their drinks on the poor Freeps  And I'm not just talking about the average Freeper follower who just fell off the turnip truck from Enema, Nebraska, either:  These were national Freeper leaders, persons who are helping to RUN the dinner, that were getting this junior-high-school treatment!

But the relations between the two groups weren't always this nasty.  In fact, sometimes, and between some of the most high-powered of the Freepers, FCFers and their guests, we managed to catch a lot of, shall we say, "passionate conservatism" in action.  Not much of it was between people who were married to each other.

That's why we're taking so darned long with the tapes.  On the one hand, you paid for dirt on the right-wing hypocrites, and we got it in spades; on the other hand, we're tempted to take the most incriminating bits and show them to Larry Flynt.  He'll almost certainly want them, but he'll want to have them all, and he won' let them out of the bag until the 2000 elections, if at all.

We need your input!  Shall we go with what we have and send it to you, or shall we go to Mr. Flynt?  Write us at WingWatchers and let us know!

May 5, 1999: We had them squirming

Kudos to those of you who participated in the name gathering and video taping at last night's dinner the lunatic right held to honor of the dishonorable House Impeachment Managers.

It was to laugh watching obviously nervous Freepers trying to figure out where we were and who we were.  We carried out our mission right under their noses, as you shall see when your copies of the video tape arrive.  In all fairness, we must tell you the juiciest parts of the tape, which caught certain right wingers in compromising positions with other right wingers' spouses, were edited out with the idea of sending them to Larry Flynt.

And how did the Freepers enjoy the dinner?

You did all the right things, and it didn't work out for you. That's too bad. A couple of weeks after I left my information on the FC answering machine, I talked to a real person (it took a few tries) to make sure my reservation had been received. It sounds like the FC people and the FR people didn't mix too well. Sounds like some weddings I've heard about!

I thought this was one of the worst run affairs I've ever attended. I, like many, had no seat though I sent my check and was confirmed in March. Even ReJoyce Smith was heard mumbling about the seating. L.D. Brown's wife also had no seat. Meandog, Parrot's Up and I didn't even get into the Ballroom till almost 7:30. And I have never attended a function where all on the dais were not introduced. Did I miss this? Who was the man in the black eye patch? Was that Henry Hyde's wife next to him? Unbelievable!

Then, when the awards were given out, they did not even read off the names of the individual Managers! They each deserved their own ovations but never got the chance. How about when congressman Hall asked the monk to come up and give the benediction, and then gave it himself  only to be totally embarassed when the poor monk slowly made his way to the stage?

Finally, did anyone have trouble buying a drink? One fellow at our table had tickets left over from the cocktail hour and was able to hunt down our waiter. Since we were running around trying to straighten out the seating mess, we never got drink tickets. Someone said drinks could be bought for cash at the dinner, but our waiters disappeared after desert, so it was water, coffee or nothing.

Good for CaL! Requiem For Truth's sixyearold daughter was also pushed and intimidated by the FC gestapo !

Shethink13 – I enjoyed very much sitting with you at the dinner Tuesday night. We got home late last night – I'm just now feeling as if I'm getting things back to normal (whatever THAT is!) –  with my grandfather's funeral and then the rally – I've been living in a whirlwind the last 3 weeks!! AnywayI – agree with you –  just what IS the Free Congress Foundation? Things were not planned very well – I mean we had a great time and everything and I am SO glad that I decided to go –  BUT –  I heard a lot of complaints, also.

Speaking for myself, I will not attend another Free Congress event. I hear ya, Lisa. The organization of this event S*CKED! I was working the doors to the ballroom, checking tickets, and you wouldn't believe all the people complaining to me about their table being full, not having tickets they paid for, and EVEN CONGRESSMAN BARR'S FAMILY DIDN'T HAVE A DESIGNATED SEATING AREA. They came to me and I was so embarassed to have to tell them I couldn't help them.

Not to mention the fact that there would have been only a handful of people in the crowd if it hadn't been for the Freepers, and the vast majority of the volunteers were Freepers.

CaL told me that night that some chick from FC was very abusive, screaming at people and got physical with her, pushing her and kicking her in the legs. CaL retaliated though with a highheel to the toes, producing an "OW" so she knew she hit her mark.

Way to go, CaL!

I'll say again that your shout was the best part of the dinner. As far as being inappropriate, that whole affair was so badly run, it was hard to figure out what WAS appropriate. Joe sounds like some of the FC people I sat with. They thought it was "inappropriate" to have children there. Some of my FReeper friends brought their kids so they could see what heroes look like. Speaking for myself, I will not attend another Free Congress event.
